On the afternoon of May 10th, our good friend Tommy Dorrian passed away while out doing what he loved.
He was following his passion of cycling in the glorious sunshine with his great friend Cristorvo and Carlo.
The banter was flowing as is Tommy's style but unfortunately he was taken from us all far too soon.
Tommy has been an integral part of GGCC for many years and was very well known as a true gentleman who helped, encouraged and supported everyone. His experience, knowledge and passion was invaluable and every day we saw him, he had the biggest, cheekiest smile.
He will be sadly missed and GGCC and its members and friends will all feel his loss.
As a club, we want to remember Tommy for the great guy we all knew and loved. We have a few suggestions and would like to discuss them with his family over the coming days and weeks.
However, we will arrange a GGCC wreath for his funeral which I'm sure we will get details of very soon and we have sent our heartfelt condolences to Isabelle and his family along with flowers and a card. I'm sure you all want to pay your own private and personal condolences but we wanted to show our respect also as a club.
On the club ride on Sunday 21st May we will also mark his passing with 1 minutes silence before we set off. The next Tommy Ton is due to ride out on the 27th May and goes over the Dukes Pass. This will offer the chance to pay our respects though again we would like to discuss this with his family and close friends before making any detailed plans.
We know he meant a lot to our members so we have taken some advice from his closest friends who have offered suggestions on how they or the club would like to remember Tommy.
Tommy Dorrian was a true great and a true legend of the sport and the cycling community is a poorer place without him.
Rest in peace Tommy, you will be sadly missed from all your friends at GCCC
