GGCC Club Run, Sunday 24th February 2020 - East & 52 Miles

Lanark (Giro d'Greggs)

Heading East through Hamilton, Clyde Valley to Lanark and back through Carluke, Newmains & Bellshill.

Please meet as normal at the Green for an 8.30am sharp start and we will leave from there for the 2nd pick up point at McDonalds on London Road (Wednesday night meeting point) and the leaving time from there is 9am AT THE LATEST.

We will be heading out of town towards McDonalds on London Rd, where we will split into paced groups. From here through Cambuslang, Blantyre, Hamilton & onto Lanark Rd through Clyde Valley to Lanark. Our route back will be through Carluke, Newmains & Bellshill, back onto London Road and into Glasgow Green

There is no pre-arranged coffee stop, but the Greggs in Lanark was a great shout last time, please bring cash for re-fueling.

With it being a newish route all groups work really tight and stick together, please remember tight rotations and tight lines on the road. The Lanark Rd through the Clyde Valley can be busy on a Sunday morning.

Group leaders will work together on behalf of each group so that everyone is happy with the format and direction and so that we can all work together.

We will go through some basic safety tips and group riding etiquette before we set off so that everyone stays safe and knows exactly what happens on the ride.

The group leaders will be identified prior to setting off in order that each paced group runs as smoothly as possible.

For those of you who are first aid trained and have been issued first aid pack, can you please bring these along on Sunday (and each run you attend)

Group leaders will decide on pace of group and arrange ride format.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU LOOK AT THE ROUTE PRIOR TO SUNDAYS RIDE.

Route details - PLEASE READ AND UNDERSTAND

Forecast is for rain (again!), temp around 4-5 degrees. Wind of 7mph from ESE gusting to 14mph.

Groups should contain between 10 - 12 riders.

All groups stay together and work together!!…...this is a training ride not a race!! Nobody gets dropped and any one wanting a dig over the climbs please regroup at the top.

Steady is steady and usually sit between 14 – 16 mph average.

Challenge should push your ability and sits about 16 - 18 mph average.

Cheeky Challenge is slightly faster and is around 18 - 20 mph.

Race running at 20mph and above

**Each group stays together and works as a group and does not drop anyone so nobody is left exposed and riding solo

**these are the averages you should expect over the course of the ride in the above groups and there will be sections ridden faster and some slower depending on road profile and conditions

**Please remember to communicate within your group. If you get split due to junctions, traffic, roundabouts then get back together. If you get split as someone is dropping off the pace then that rider steps down a group, (or steps up if going through to hard) **If you need to ask the group to slow up, we would suggest you step down as you may be in the wrong group

**Please remember tubes, pump, levers, multitool and also please ensure your bike is in good working order, oiled, lubed, maintained and clean**
