GGCC 7th YEAR ANNIVERSARY RIDE - Sunday 12th August 2018

They talk about ‘the 7-year itch’…maybe you will get a ‘7th year stitch’ on Sunday if you ride too fast! 😉

This Sunday we would love you all to join us to celebrate GGCC's 7-year anniversary!

It’s our yearly Sportive ride and it would be great if you can head out and join the fun!

This year we plan to incorporate the European Men’s Road Race that is also being held around the streets of our great city!

The plan is to meet at 8.15am sharp so we can officially announce ‘The Broons Award’ for 2018 before we set off. Remember that this award is given to that member that ‘The Broons’ feel has made a significant difference in the club and also contributed throughout the year and gone beyond what’s required……. who will it be……please be at the arch sharp so we can announce it! Mark Gallagher has quite rightly looked after this award for the past 12 months.

After the announcement we plan to try and ride 1 loop of the men’s road race course or as much of it as we can, so we will set off at 8.30am sharp from the Arch. After that we will head north out of town on a route that you will be familiar with but with an optional added twist……. well more of a hill than a twist!

**Due to us wanting to get back for the race, we won’t have an official coffee stop and we will stop as and when required along the route – potential is at Café Barga once back over Crow Road.

The route is posted here, courtesy of Gavin Blackburn, and we would appreciate if you all make sure you understand the route in full. It’s a 56-mile route BUT there is a shorter option for those that want it, so something for everyone.

The route heads out towards the A80 through Stepps, and onto Kilsyth before taking Tak ma Doon, a favourite for some and nemesis to lots! over the junction and along and north towards.

**this is the shorter option as if you want a shorter route you can turn left along Carron Valley and pick up the official route at the foot of the Crow Road in Fintry**

The full route continues towards Stirling but them takes a left turn towards North Third Reservoir, before turning left at the only T Junction back towards Carron Valley, onwards to Fintry then back over Crow Road.

From here we will head towards Strathblane and then to Milngavie, and into town via Balmore road and in via Possil.

This route has something for everyone 😊

All we ask is that you look at the route and make sure that EVERYONE is comfortable with the route prior to Sunday!

Please meet under the McLennan Arch on the green for an 8:00 – 8.10am sharp start. It would be great to have time for another group photo so please get there in plenty of time.

Sundays Sportive ride is a social ride so there will be NO PACED GROUPS, this day is about riding at a nice pace and having the time to mix the groups and enjoy the days riding, it’s not a training ride. It’s a chance to ride with folk you may not normally ride with. I’ve been in steady lately and it’s a great craic being able to talk and chat!

Could the road captains and ride leaders please all chip in and help where they can and make sure the run goes as smoothly as possible throughout the day. We will make each group around 10 - 12 riders but have stops along the way to enable mixing of groups and we can discuss the finer detail on Sunday and welcome your ideas too as it’s your day!

Please remember money for refreshments throughout the day as we may be out for a fair while once we hit Glasgow for the men’s road race.

If any new riders come along, can folk buddy up where possible?

We will go through some basic safety, group riding etiquette and group riding technique, first aid and basic bike maintenance before we set off so that everyone stays safe and knows exactly what’s happening on the ride.

For those of you who are first aid trained and have been issued first aid pack, can you please bring these along on Sunday (and each run you attend)

Weather is to be ‘questionable’ and we may get damp! Met Office currently states that there is a 50% - 80% of rain up until 1pm and then drying up so bring clothing to cater for that.

12 – 16 degrees and a 10mph Easterly wind gusting to 20mph

REMEMBER - NOBODY gets dropped on Sunday as it’s a social, so we ask that everyone really works together on Sundays Sportive, thanks

**Please remember tubes, pump, levers, multitool and please ensure your bike is in good working order, oiled, lubed, maintained and clean**

We look forward to seeing you and we hope that you all have a great day!

See you all Sunday

From All the team @ GGCC
