A quick Scottish Cycling Update.........
There is a lot happening down at Scottish Cycling at minute so heres a quick round up.......
Calendar Compilation Process - I attended the meeting last Thursday and saw sight of the provisional race calendar for next year.......GGCC submitted provisional dates for our TT (hoping that it will be the National?) and also a suggested road race and at this point its planned to be a women's road race run separately to a men's road race on the same day
Off Road Forum - Im part of this development group to discuss all things 'knobbly tyred and fat tyred', and its purpose is to help develop the future of this area of cycling and the first meeting is planned for later this month....watch this space and not sure who else is on it but be great if there were other GGCC'ers?
Road and Track Forum - Im also part of this group and we met again tonight and we are making great progress but LOTS to actually put into action. This is another attempt at making a difference to road and track and the 6 people from the West that sit on this group discussed the following tonight.**PLEASE NOTE - that all of the below are ideas and discussion points at minute and Ill keep you updated on progress but want to give you all a heads up -
-Falling Leave Road Race cancelled this year
-Looking at potential events for 2019 that would facilitate a mens and womens Scottish Road Race team to take part. (Ive suggested that GGCC host the womens race) A selection criteria would be involved to be selected to ride for the team
-A 2019 road race series (similar to the old WOSCA series) that would be 8 - 10 races giving priority entry to organizing clubs with a winners jersey **GGCC have had 2 wear this jersey before!!!....Ross Dymock and Chris Hinds
-Series would be a mix of cat 3/4 and 2/3/4 races
-Suggestion is that you potentially give something back and marshal at 1 of the events to support the series
-Looking at a West of Scotland track champs that would potentially take place at one of the Super Saturday events
-Looking at possibility of a selection criteria for a West of Scotland team that could ride team track events - this is to be discussed in much more detail next time in November
RDG Group (Regional Development Group) - I sit on this group along with your fellow GGCC'ers Doog, Zosia and Richard and this group pulls together all of the forum groups. We have met once as a group so far and our next meeting is later in September where we will discuss all the ideas from the various forum groups
Its great to see Scottish Cycling take positive action and last week was their National Forum Meeting that I attended that was a chance to input into their next 4 year strategy cycle..........lots of ideas were put forward but ultimately its up to SC to take on board the feedback from clubs and make changes for the good of cycling......lets see what all of the discussions bring but in my honest opinion its good that we are pushing the sport forward in what I hope is a positive direction.
As ever GGCC'ers, Ill keep you up to date with progress.
:-)
