GGCC 8 YEAR ANNIVERSARY SPORTIVE RIDE - Sunday 11th August

09 Aug 2019

GGCC is 8 years old……or if it was a dog then 56 years old, a cat 48 years old, a cow 42 years old, a donkey 24 years old or a ferret 88 years old…………….see…….we even cater for animal lovers in this club….that one was for you 😊

Its time to celebrate and get together for a nice social and enjoy what we do……. riding bikes and having great banter.

GGCC have come a very long way since 2011 and although I’m not out as much these days, I’m still immensely proud of the club and each and every rider that supports and gets involved and wears our black and white……or white and black……or all black…….or white……or sometimes yellow………kit!! 😉

This year we are heading ‘doon and aroon the coast’ for eats in Largs……. the Blackpool of the West of Scotland?

It would be great if you could join us to celebrate our success and come along and ride with your mates.

We usually announce the winner of The Broons award which Mr Chris Ditchfield has dutifully looked after for the past 12 months but we will award the winner this year at the official GGCC Xmas Awards Ceremony. Remember that this award is judged by John, Rae and Wee Dobbo based on what they see over the course of the year…..so get in amongst it…….and…….it could be you!

The plan is to meet at 8.15am sharp so we can get a group photograph which has become customary on each anniversary ride and then set off at 8.30am sharp.

There were quite a few suggestions for routes, so I’ve taken advice from lots of you who have experience of these roads and what is and isn’t ridable, so the route is below in an anti-clockwise direction.

Hopefully the route has something for everyone, and the plan would be to ride together in mixed groups for the day. We would appreciate if you all make sure you understand the route in full before Sunday. There ‘may’ be options for a shorter return if required depending on weather, time, desire, for those that want it. (maybe pack a dry top in your pocket?)

The route heads out from The Green towards Govan, renfrew, inchinnan, bishopton, ingliston, old greenock rd, clune, greenock esplanade, inverkip, greenock cut, loch thom, old largs rd, largs, halie brae, kilbirnie, beith, lugton, uplawmoor, barrhead, darnley, Shawlands.

We are only on the main road through Greenock for a very short section from Port Glasgow to start of Greenock esplanade

We plan to stop in Largs at The Paddle Steamer on the promenade for food and drink so please bring enough money to get yourself fed and watered.

Sundays Sportive ride is a social ride so there will be NO PACED GROUPS, this day is about riding at a nice pace and having the time to mix the groups and enjoy the days riding, it’s not a training ride. It’s a chance to ride with folk you may not normally ride with.

Could the road captains and ride leaders please all chip in and help where they can and make sure the run goes as smoothly as possible throughout the day. We will make each group around 10 - 12 riders but have stops along the way to enable further mixing of groups and we can discuss the finer detail on Sunday and welcome your ideas too as it’s your day!

We will go through some basic safety, group riding etiquette and group riding technique, first aid and basic bike maintenance before we set off so that everyone stays safe and knows exactly what’s happening on the ride.

For those of you who are first aid trained and have been issued first aid pack, can you please bring these along on Sunday (and each run you attend)

Now!..........the weather is to be ‘questionable’ and we may get damp!

Met Office currently states that there is a 50% - 90% of rain…. easy’ish’ rain in the early part of the morning turning to not so easy ‘ish’ rain as the morning progresses. Winds at 5mph from the north gusting to 10mph and 14 degrees.

**PLEASE NOTE THAT THERE MAY BE A CHANCE OF THUNDERSTORMS SO IM GOING TO KEEP AN EYE ON THE WEATHER AND IF THE YELLOW WARNING THAT’S CURRENTLY BEING FLAGGED DOESN’T LISF THE RIDE MAY BE IN DOUBT DUE TO SAFETY**

**If we are out on route and the weather closes in……. we will think of something 😉

**REMEMBER….ITS ONLY RAIN…..YOU HAVE SKIN……ITS WATERPROOF…..ZWIFT AND TURBO’S CAN ‘GET TE’ ON SUNDAY!!

REMEMBER - NOBODY gets dropped on Sunday as it’s a social, so we ask that everyone really works together on Sundays Sportive, thanks

**Please remember tubes, pump, levers, multitool and please ensure your bike is in good working order, oiled, lubed, maintained and clean**

We look forward to seeing you and we hope that you all have a great day!

See you all Sunday
