With less than 10 days to go until the Cycling Weekly Awards #CWAWARDS2019 , I thought it would be good to brain dump a few thoughts on you all?
The last 8 years has been an honour and a privilege for me to be Club Captain for such an outstanding group of individuals who collectively make up Glasgow Green Cycle Club and your actions as members makes me hugely proud to be part of what has been created and achieved.
Running this club for me is massively rewarding, yes it’s a lot of work but that’s my choice and I love it and only hope that each and every one of you get what you want from your club and you know that if ever there is an idea, suggestion or a better way of doing ‘stuff’ I’m always ‘all ears’………that’s how we do things and always will. We talk, we agree / disagree, we try, we adapt, we develop, we evolve………. we don’t have voting committees or any unnecessary boundaries or constraints……I hope you all agree this has been our formula for success.
With that in mind and because we ‘do what we do’, we have been nominated along with 2 other outstanding cycle clubs to be considered for Cycling Weekly UK Club of the Year 2019……..just let that sink in for a minute………..nominated to be Cycling Weekly UK Club of the Year 2019!
This for me is a huge achievement in itself and makes me beam with pride and I can’t thank you all enough as I truly believe it’s down to you the members that have made this possible. Circumstances out with my control, have meant I haven’t been around on a bike as much as I would like so it’s you guys and gals that have made this possible as its you, the members that are there week in week out providing a safe platform for folk to ride their bikes in a safe and fun environment…….we are very well known for being an all-inclusive club that caters for all, and that was the intention 8 years ago when I thought……….’I’m sure I can do this better myself’……I’ll give it a try!
So, what’s the point of this post…………’what’s he on about’ you may be asking……. well………. the point is this…………
We as a club go from strength to strength and on the 28th November a winner will be announced at 8 Northumberland Street, London, in a room full of cycling fanatics, journalists, and cycling fans, club members from all over the UK and Robert Hamilton and I in our wee bow ties and flutes! We will be there proudly representing Glasgow Green Cycle Club……. ‘that wee club up in Glasgow’. That club that has produced national champions, record breakers, podium winners, husbands and wife’s, GGCC babies, awesome bikes riders, lifelong friends, respectful road users, and much much more!
Whatever the result, we have already won.…. there are no losers……our nomination alone means so much, I say again, we are nominated in the top 3 clubs in the whole of the UK.
If we win, it’s an added bonus and as Wee Dobbo posted last week………. it’s the icing on top of a very large and already tasty cake.
If we don’t win…….well remember, we have actually already won!
I would love to be up on that stage and accept that award on behalf of each and every one of you, GGCC’s valued members but if we don’t I will shake the deserved winners hand and congratulate another outstanding cycling club and its members for its achievements and contribution to cycling, because remember we are up against 2 brilliant cycling clubs and if we get pipped at the post……..we are on the podium, and that’s not a bad place to be!
GGCC WILL DO WHAT WE DO……. WE WILL BE HUMBLE IN VICTORY BUT GRACIOUS IN DEFEAT
See you all on the 29th to recognise our year and Im already looking forward to 2020……. what a year it’s going to be for us 😊
