GGCC Club Ride, Sunday 6th Aug, 2023
It's the Elite Mens UCI World Championship Road Race day !!
EDIT Peleton hits top of Crow between 11.45am and 12.15pm
We have two options for Sunday's ride both leaving the Green at 8.30am
Option 1 ( less than 20 miles to Crow, 37 mile Green to Green)
This option is designed for those wanting back to Glasgow sharpish
This group will ride to the south slope of the Crow via Robroyston, the prison run, Torrance, then into Lennoxtown.
At this point there is some options.
Climb the Crow to the carpark, back down then head back to Glasgow via the UCI route ( or detour via Possil once at the big roundabout)
Climb up and over the Crow and wait for the peloton to pass, then ride back to Glasgow, probably back the same way if the course route is not viable.
I'll need to plot this route - I had but forgot to save it in Strava
Option 2 36 miles to top of Crow
This group will ride out to the north side of the Crow, heading out via the A80 to Cumbernauld, Castlecary and Denny, where we will join the route and ride the Carron Valley then onto the Crow. At this point people can head back or stay on the Crow for the peloton.

Please make sure you are comfortable with the route you choose prior to setting off from the Green
If you have been given a first aid pack or have your own, can you bring this with you on club runs?
Please can group leaders help with the ride as much as possible.
Weather - who knows? Currently looking like we will avoid ran in the morning with temps 11-14 degC
Depending on numbers for each option we will split into STEADY, CHALLENGE, CHEEKY CHALLENGE and RACE PACE at defined and agreed points along the route, and we will aim to minimize the stops.
Groups should contain between 8 and 10 riders.
Steady is steady and usually sit between 14 – 16 mph average.
Challenge should push your ability and sits about 16 - 18 mph average.
Cheeky Challenge is slightly faster and is around 18 - 20 mph.
Race Pace should be regularly and consistently over 20+mph
These are the averages you should expect over the course of the ride in the above groups and there will be sections ridden faster and some slower depending on road profile and conditions
Please remember to communicate within your group. If you get split due to junctions, traffic, roundabouts then get back together. If you get split as someone is dropping off the pace then that rider steps down a group, (or steps up if going through to hard)
If you need to ask the group to slow up, we would suggest you step down as you may be in the wrong group
Please pick your group carefully and remember that all groups work together to promote group riding but steady is the only group that rides at the pace of the slowest rider and the other groups don't wait for dropped riders unless agreed amongst the group and riders on the night.
**Please remember tubes, pump, levers, multitool and also please ensure your bike is in good working order, oiled, lubed, maintained **
