GGCC Club Ride, Sunday 13th Aug, 2023
The GGCC 12 Year Anniversary ride incorporating the Elite Womens UCI World Championship Road Race day !!
What a day of cycling this will be………celebrate your clubs 12 year birthday, coffee and chat AND watch the best racers in the world tackle the course in Glasgow!!
DUE TO THE PACKED AGENDA AND PLAN WE NEED TO MEET AT 7.30am SHARP………
The plan for Sunday is to meet early and hopefully get a lap of the course before its locked down for the Para cyclists to start and practice on.
From there we will head south for one of our favourites to Bernies for 12 year anniversary coffee, cake and chat!
Then head back to Glasgow to watch the Elite women tackle the Glasgow loops…….the women’s race doesn’t start until around 12 so they wouldn’t reach The Crow Road until around 1pm which is late in the day so we have opted to do a ‘normal club ride’ BUT still be able to watch the action on the circuit for those that want to join in the fun! 😉
Last week it worked catching the action in Kelvingrove, Byres Road, Cathedral Street, High Street, Montrose Street and Ingram Street (pub!)
Would be great to get a solid turnout for our 12 year ride and the weather is……..
Sunny intervals, around 17 degrees with a SW wind at around 12mph gusting to low twenties. There ‘may’ be a light shower mid afternoon.
PLEASE MEET AT THE GREEN FOR A 7.30 START
https://connect.garmin.com/modern/course/61725339
Please make sure you are comfortable with the route you choose prior to setting off from the Green
If you have been given a first aid pack or have your own, can you bring this with you on club runs?
Please can group leaders help with the ride as much as possible.
Depending on numbers for each option we will split into STEADY, CHALLENGE, CHEEKY CHALLENGE and RACE PACE at defined and agreed points along the route, and we will aim to minimize the stops.
Groups should contain between 8 and 10 riders.
Steady is steady and usually sit between 14 – 16 mph average.
Challenge should push your ability and sits about 16 - 18 mph average.
Cheeky Challenge is slightly faster and is around 18 - 20 mph.
Race Pace should be regularly and consistently over 20+mph
These are the averages you should expect over the course of the ride in the above groups and there will be sections ridden faster and some slower depending on road profile and conditions
Please remember to communicate within your group. If you get split due to junctions, traffic, roundabouts then get back together. If you get split as someone is dropping off the pace then that rider steps down a group, (or steps up if going through to hard)
If you need to ask the group to slow up, we would suggest you step down as you may be in the wrong group
Please pick your group carefully and remember that all groups work together to promote group riding but steady is the only group that rides at the pace of the slowest rider and the other groups don't wait for dropped riders unless agreed amongst the group and riders on the night.
**Please remember tubes, pump, levers, multitool and also please ensure your bike is in good working order, oiled, lubed, maintained **
