GGCC Club Run Sunday 19th November 2023 - Bonnyton, Eaglesham and Glennifer - South 49.5 miles
Please meet under the McLennan Arch on the green for 8:30am sharp start.
This week we plan to head out over a route that we have only done once back in June, but received good feedback from those out that day. This will be an entirely new route for some, so please make sure you take a look at the strava route link to give yourself an idea of the direction and terrain, or indeed load it into your Garmin/wahoo if you can.
We will head out through Polmadie and along clarkston road, out through Clarkston onto Waterfoot, where we will split into our pace groups at the bottom of the first climb at Bonnyton. This brings us out part-way up Eaglesham moor, where we continue the climb up and over and onto the A77 for a bit. Turning right onto the clunch, we bear left along the cutstraw for a nice smooth run into Stewarton. (please note there is a bit of a rough patch on the final descent to stewarton so take care). We head straight through stewarton cross through Dunlop and on to Lugon. After a very short distance along the Lochlibo road we stop for coffee at the "Coffee Container" at Mclarens nurseries.
We then head back up the Hall road, turning right onto the glennifer climb carrying on along the Sergeant Law road and down to Paisley. Then it's Arkleston, Renfrew and back to the green via Govan.
Each group will make their own way back to Glasgow Green
WE WILL STOP AT "THE COFFEE CONTAINER" FOR OUR COFFEE BREAK.
We will go through some basic safety, first aid and basic bike maintenance before we set off so that everyone stays safe and knows exactly what’s happening on the ride.
The group leaders will be identified prior to setting off in order that each paced group runs as smoothly as possible.
For those of you who are first aid trained and have been issued first aid pack, can you please bring these along on Sunday (and each run you attend)
RIDE ETIQUETTE– We will ride out of town in groups as normal and split into paced groups at the bottom of Bonnyton Moor Road (Deils wood car park) From there, each group MUST stay together and work as a group. We will start and ride at the advertised speeds of each paced group. If there is any split in the group (on Climbs etc) it is the responsibility of EVERYONE, not just the group leader, to get things back together at the top.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU LOOK AT THE ROUTE PRIOR TO SUNDAYS RIDE.
Forecast is to be rainy, with decent temperatures up around 10-11 degrees, and a SW wind of 8 mph gusting to 16 mph.
Groups should contain between 10 - 12 riders.
All groups stay together and work together!!......this is a training ride not a race!!
Steady is steady and usually sit between 14 – 16 mph average.
Challenge should push your ability and sits about 16 - 18 mph average.
Cheeky Challenge is slightly faster and is around 18 - 20 mph.
If there is interest, there may be a race pace group. This will be 20mph+ for sustained periods.
**Each group stays together and works as a group and does not drop anyone so nobody is left exposed and riding solo
**these are the averages you should expect over the course of the ride in the above groups and there will be sections ridden faster and some slower depending on road profile and conditions
**Please remember to communicate within your group. If you get split due to junctions, traffic, roundabouts then get back together. If you get split as someone is dropping off the pace then that rider steps down a group, (or steps up if going through to hard) **If you need to ask the group to slow up, we would suggest you step down as you may be in the wrong group
Please remember tubes, pump, levers, multitool and also please ensure your bike is in good working order, oiled, lubed, maintained and clean
