Club Run details 5th May 2013 - Coffee and Caes @ Dales Cycles

03 May 2013

GGCC Club Ride details for Sunday 5th May 2013 (Coffee & Cakes @ Dales)- South – Out to Malletsheugh Inn then riding a loop of the GGCC Road Race Course - 36 miles.

This Sunday we plan to head south of Glasgow. The plan for this weekend to recce the route we will use for the GGCC British Cycling Road Race.

The run itself will head out to the Malletsheugh Inn, then head along the B769 (Dodside Road), turn left on the Clunch Road, then left onto the A77 and back up to the Malletsheugh Inn.

We will then head back into town taking a direct route to Dales Cycles for our monthly Coffee & Cake catch up.

Please meet under the McLennan Arch on the green for an 8:30am sharp start. As we are stopping at Dales for coffee, we ask that you bring along a couple of quid. There is no cost for the coffee and cakes that are put on by the team @ Dales, though we should offer something for the hard work they put into looking after us.

We will go through some basic safety, group riding etiquette and group riding technique, first aid and basic bike maintenance before we set off so that everyone stays safe and knows exactly what’s happening on the ride.

PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU LOOK AT THE ROUTE PRIOR TO SUNDAYS RIDE.

http://gb.mapometer.com/cycling/route_3089774.html

Weather is to be around 10 degrees with a slight chance of some rain. 15 mph winds

We will split into STEADY, CHALLENGE and potentially RACE pace.

Everyone will take the same route so if you choose the wrong group or get dropped from Challenge, there will always be a group coming up that you can join.

Our style of riding is to ride 2 a breast. An anti-clockwise rotation will happen when the front two riders decidE that they want to rotate the group.

An idea of the pace each group should ride @ are -

Steady Group sits at about 14 -16mph average speed

Challenge should stretch you at around 18mph - 20mph average speed

Race Pace is 20+mph

Pick you group carefully. GGCC split the entire route into a number of sections. This allows the riders to regroup and choose different paced groups depending on what they want to get from the run.

The first couple of miles of each section should be ridden at a constant pace to allow everyone to get into a rhythm. Excluding the steady group who will ride as one group for the entire run, challenge and race pace groups will gradually increase the pace.

If you get dropped from the challenge or race pace group, ease up and the following group(s) will catch you up to ensure you are not alone on the run.

Just to re-iterate, THE STEADY GROUP is the only group that holds back and does not drop anyone.

**Please remember tubes, pump, levers, multitool and also please ensure your bike is in good working order, oiled, lubed, maintained and clean**

See you all Sunday.

From all the team @ GGCC
