GGCC Club Run - Wednesday 29th April 2015 – 'The Strathaven Stormer'
Strathaven Route with Sydes Brae climb to start - 30 mile
So we are on lit roads near the end of the ride we will head through Cambuslang, along and up to Blantyre, up Sydes Brae and onto Strathaven via Muttonhall Road, then back towards East Kilbride, down the Kingsway and back into Cambuslang, through Burnside and along to the McDonalds. This means that the end of the ride is on well-lit roads.
We will switch and ride the route the other way (next week) once we get a little more light at the end of the ride.
Route Details. http://connect.garmin.com/course/6336377
Please ensure you have adequate lights (front and rear) as it will be dark by the end of the ride.
Meet at 6.45pm for a 7pm start at the McDonalds at the end of London Road near the junction of the M74.
We will go through some basic safety tips and group riding etiquette before we set off so that everyone stays safe and knows exactly what happens on the ride.
If you have been given a first aid pack or have your own, can you bring this with you on club runs?
Weather is to be around 5 degrees, cloudy but dry with only a 20% chance of rain, a 9 mph NW wind gusting to 19 mph.
We will split into STEADY, CHALLENGE, CHEEKY CHALLENGE and RACE PACE at defined and agreed points along the route, and we will aim to minimize the stops.
Groups should contain between 8 and 10 riders.
Steady is steady and usually sit between 14 – 16 mph average.
Challenge should push your ability and sits about 16 - 18 mph average.
Cheeky Challenge is slightly faster and is around 18 - 20 mph.
Race Pace should be regularly and consistently over 20+mph
**these are
the
averages you
should
expect over the course of the ride in the above groups and
there
will be sections ridden
faster
and some slower depending on road profile and conditions
Please pick your group carefully and remember that all groups work together to promote group riding but steady is the only group that rides at the pace of the slowest rider and the other groups don't wait for dropped riders unless agreed amongst the group and riders on the night
.
**Please remember tubes, pump, levers, multitool and also please ensure your bike is in good working order, oiled, lubed, maintained **
