GGCC Anniversary Sportive – 9th August 2015

This Sunday is the GGCC Anniversary Sportive, which will take our members on a fantastic route up to Callander and through the Trossachs.

The plan is to meet at the McLennan Arch on Glasgow Green from 8:30. The last group should leave the Green no later than 9am.

As with every GGCC ride we will run through the group leaders for the ride, first aiders and carry out a M Check on the bikes to make sure everyone gets off to the best start on what will be a great day on the bike.

There will be a support vehicle on hand for the ride and should you can leave any items in the vehicle to be taken to the hotel.

Every group will take the same route to Callander and will arrive at the Roman Camp Hotel, Off Main Street Callander, FK17 8BG for around 11:30 am.

When you arrive at the hotel you will have a range of soft drinks to choose from ( a paid bar will also be available should you wish another type of drink). Everyone will sit down to a 2 course lunch followed by teas & Coffee’s.

As with every GGCC Anniversary Sportive there will be some celebrations and prizes. Followed by some cake just in tome to give everyone an energy boost for the routes home to Glasgow.

Outbound Route. 37 miles This is the route everyone will take out of town heading to Callander. https://connect.garmin.com/course/10313255.

The outbound route could also be used for those members who are looking to get back to Glasgow earlier.

Below are two longer routes our members can use to get back to town from Callander.

Return route 1. 56 Miles https://connect.garmin.com/course/10313451

Return Route 2. 63 Miles https://connect.garmin.com/course/10313503

We would suggest your review each of the routes as these differ from anything that the club has done previously.

As always we will try and allocate group leaders on the day though with the unusual format of riders choosing their own routes and differing paces across the members who will be there, please make sure you are familiar with the roads we suggest for the day.

Tips are; save the routes to your phone as an image or even better, load the Garmin app to your smart phone that will help you navigate on the day. If you have a GPS bike computer, load the map to the device and use that on the day to get turn by turn navigation.

Where possible, we will split into STEADY, CHALLENGE, CHEEKY CHALLENGE and RACE PACE for the ride out and back.

Groups should contain between 8 and 10 riders.

Steady is steady and usually sit between 14 – 16 mph average.
Challenge should push your ability and sits about 16 - 18 mph average.
Cheeky Challenge is slightly faster and is around 18 - 20 mph.
Race Pace should be regularly and consistently over with no backing off 20+mph

These are the averages you should expect over the course of the ride in the above groups and there will be sections ridden faster and some slower depending on road profile and conditions

If you need to ask a group to slow up or ride steady  more than a couple of times, then its suggested you step down a group

Please pick your group carefully and remember that all groups work together to promote group riding but steady is the only group that rides at the pace of the slowest rider and the other groups don't wait for dropped riders unless agreed amongst the group and riders on the night.

**Please remember tubes, pump, levers, multitool as you should not expect the other riders to have spares to cater for any mishaps. Our members should always be self sufficient Please ensure your bike is in good working order, oiled, lubed, maintained and clean**

From all the team @ GGCC
