Westferry Course

GGCC are proud to have delivered another top class event and the feedback during and after the event has been and continues to be nothing but positive and it’s all down to the riders who delivered some spectacular times and each and every helper, marshall and valued GGCC member who gave up their time to deliver this event.

After a very early start to get the course marked, checked and driven, sign on was set up, ready and open for business at 7.30 and we started to get a trickle of riders in to get signed on.

Numbers were busily pinned on while the food and kitchen were made ready for the hungry riders and helpers that would want fed and watered throughout the morning.

After a slightly shaky start where we realised we had marked the old course we had to quickly get back out on course to amend the start and finish markers and make sure as many people as possible were told of the change that had already signed on…..a slight mad panic but no harm done and Linda and Geoff from CTT were happy with communication and they made their way out to time the riders.

Over the course of the morning times were sent in and marked up and we, along with riders, started to congregate around the finish time board and waited with bated breath to see who had done what and where they stood against their peers.

The weather was kind and great conditions with an overcast but dry sky, dry roads and a workable temperature for an hour of solid suffering!

The last riders went off at 10.30 so by 11.30 we were in full results mode and not even an IT meltdown (laptop got swore at many, many times) could stop us from delivering the results!

The full results can be found here –

GGCC would like to thank all 104 solo riders and the 1 tandem we had for entering, supporting and giving it their all and congratulations go to all the category winners across Espoir, junior, V40, V50, V60 and V70, and tandem who set a new course record of 55:24 and of course our overall winners.

The new Scottish District Champions are Douglas Watson of GTR with a time of 49:43 (the only sub 50 of the day), and Victoria Smith of AeroCoach with a time of 55:23

Prizes on the day included the championship trophy for the overall winners (which we will get engraved asap and get to you), event prints, prize medals, prize money AND caps, tea towels, protein milks and of course GGCC branded bidons! Now where else do you get a prize haul like that!! 😊

GGCC are very proud to host this event but it goes without saying that it just wouldn’t happen without the help and support of some worthy mentions and I make no apologies for calling them out by name as without the following folk……there would be no event from GGCC

·        Police Scotland, Transerv and Bishopton Community Centre

·        CTT – Sally who helped with the admin and Geoff and Linda and the team for timing duties on the day

·        Mike Bishop for official photographs

·        Winning Awards for the medals

·        Keiron Redmond Graphic Design for help with the event brochure

·        Breakaway Artist Prints for help with the exclusive event prints

·        Grahams Dairy (Steve and Pamela Hutton)

The 2 biggest thanks go first to Tunnocks and especially Boyd himself and Fergus who helped us with what I think you will agree was a fantastic spread of delicious food. We had a donation and collection for Tunnocks and we raised £150 which will go to Boyd’s chosen charity The RNLI and he is extremely grateful when our Honorary President John Brown went to see him today.

Secondly thanks has to go to our main supporter Torvelo Bike Repair and Doog Carruthers! Doog in the midst of setting up his new company Torvelo, helped arrange and run this event, and was also the main sponsor of the women’s trophy! Huge kudos for helping take this on and he didn’t set a bad time on the day too! Chapeau

Lastly it’s a HUGE and MASSIVE call out to the following people who helped each and every rider on the day and helped GGCC over and beyond the call of duty and you don’t know how much it means! I’m sure all the riders welcomed their shouts and the event as a whole welcomed the support so stand up, take a bow and give yourselves a pat on the back for making this event what it was!

Rae Brown (THE best kitchen and food provider you will ever meet!), John Brown (our Honorary President and chief sign putter outer), Nicola Dobinson, Chris Ditchfield, Zosia Martin, David Fitzpatrick, Mark Gallagher, Paul Keoghan (RACC), Alex Michnowicz, Natalie Wheatley, Richard Hogg, Jim Mortimer, Michael Gaddis, Christine Catterson, Derek Brown, Paul Mullan, Stuart Fleming, Kenny Blair, Graeme Bodel, Andy Jack, Eric Fulton, Steve Hutton and Pamela Hutton, Corrin Halliday, Iain Martin, Iain Williamson, Saif Mulla, Karen Hood and Darren Jackson, Nic Bone

Now…….over n out…….until the next one 😉
