GGCC CLUB UPDATE – IMPORTANT ANNOUNCMENENT / PLEASE READ ALL OF POST

This post is probably the most important post of the year so please read and fully understand its implications…..your cooperation is appreciated…..

THE MIGHTY GGCC RETURNS……………

Following the latest Government guidelines and Scottish Cycling strict and specific instructions, GGCC will return, and we will again commence official group rides.

This period of time has been, is and continues to be unprecedented and I am pleased to finally announce our return to ‘Club Rides’ and our ‘grand return’ will be this Sunday 6th September.

Ride details will be posted up later in the week but we need to spell out very clearly what we need to do as a club in order to meet the very strict and stringent rules and regulations laid down in order for us to ride as a group and stay as safe as we can.

I make no apologies for the following requests / demands / rules…..they are the same for every club (not just cycling) and its what’s required to comply with the guidelines and ensure that GGCC operates in as safe an environment as possible. I am sure that you have all experienced various and differing legislation and rules when out in the real world during this time so following is what GGCC MUST do as a bare minimum for any ride to proceed.

Please understand and accept that if the following guidelines are not met then you will simply not be allowed to ride, and I am sure you can appreciate why. We are not out of this situation yet, but we can do what we can to ensure we do not contribute to it.

GGCC have been working closely with Scottish Cycling to ensure that we can return safely and in line with COVID-19 Guidelines.

In order to comply with COVID-19 Guidelines the club and participants will need to adhere to the following:

  1. Club rides will only be open to fully paid up members – no new members may join at present
  2. Club rides must be booked in advance – details to follow and booking system being discussed and agreed so its as simple as possible
  3. NHS Test & Protect requires that for each 'Club Ride' participants must provide their full name and a contact telephone number at the time of booking – as above and system TBC
  4. The requirement for physical distancing is suspended for all activity, and for all ages, from 24 August 2020 for the duration of the activity. Physical distancing of 2 meters should be maintained before and after activity.
  5. Road Captains and Group Leaders can lead adult groups of no more 30, from an unlimited number of households.
  6. Be prepared - consider what tools and spares you need to carry with you so that you are self-sufficient, including maintaining good personal hygiene at all times.
  7. Participants are required to carry a face covering at all times.

I have taken on the role of ‘Covid Officer’ and have completed the learning modules so its official and logged with Scottish Cycling, as I don’t feel comfortable (and its not fair) giving this responsibility to anyone else and I will, as ever keep you as a club up to date with any changes that need announced and I will ensure that we comply as a club. Please do what you can as a valued member to help me and your club stay safe.

Some personal requests from me would be –

  1. If you don’t feel safe, don’t attend. Don’t put yourself in a situation you are not comfortable with. I understand that some may be more cautious than others
  2. If you are in any way ill or have any symptoms at all….DO NOT attend a club ride
  3. If you have been in a public situation that you feel there was or may have been a risk with regards to Covid-19, please do not attend and wait until the next club ride
  4. Be respectful (as you always are), be thoughtful and mindful of your actions during your time with your fellow members.

Can I personally thank you for your patience over this time GGCC’ers…..its been a long time coming but WE ARE BACK…….so lets make sure we do this properly and get back to riding our bikes in a safe and fun environment!

Specific ride details will be posted up later in week!......in the meantime post below any question or queries you have.
