GGCC Honorary President - John Brown / forever our President

07 Dec 2020

GGCC have been honoured and privileged to be able to say that since our inception, John Brown was our Honorary President.

John will always be our Honorary President.

John passed away peacefully in his sleep after losing his battle with cancer on the morning of 26th November 2020 and he was laid to rest on Saturday 5th December and what a send-off GGCC gave him.

John was heavily involved in GGCC from day 1 and our club….was a true passion of his, and without him we would not have had the success we have enjoyed.

John selflessly gave his time along with Rae his wife and Nicola his daughter at every event we have hosted and was an integral part of what we were able to provide to you the members.

On Saturday 5th December John was followed from his house in Bothwell by many of his fellow GGCC friends dressed in full club kit and on their bikes (and motorbikes) to Daldowie Crematorium where he was given a guard of honour as he passed towards the chapel, and he would have been delighted and on behalf of Rae, Nic and I we are hugely grateful of the support.

What a sight it was…. a powerful statement of what we all think of our President.

John will be forever remembered, and GGCC will continue to talk of him fondly and he will be sadly missed.

GGCC will put some thought into how we can remember our great friend so that he is always with us and always part of what we do.

John Brown, GGCC’s Honorary President……. chapeau and rest in peace.

and as ‘the auld yin’ would say…….’remember, nobody remembers who’s second’!
