GGCC Club Run, Sunday 13th June 2021 - North - Balloch via Blane Valley

Please meet under the McLennan Arch on the green for 8:30am sharp start.

This week we plan to head North / North East to Balloch and back via Dumbarton.

We will roll out form the Arch in neutral non-paced groups of 8-10, heading up through the town to our re-group point at Robroyston where we will split into our respective pace groups. From there we will head through Torrance, over to Lennoxtown and along the Blane road to Strathblane. We then turn right and head along the A81 through Dumgoyne, turning left at the 2nd roundabout up towards Devil's Pulpit. We then turn right onto A809 through Croftamie, and then left along the A811 (old military rd) into Balloch where we will stop at McDonalds for coffee and refuelling. We head back along A82 through Renton, Dumbarton, Bowling, Clydebank and finally along South street back to the Green.

We will go through some basic safety, first aid and basic bike maintenance before we set off so that everyone stays safe and knows exactly what’s happening on the ride.
The group leaders will be identified prior to setting off in order that each paced group runs as smoothly as possible.
For those of you who are first aid trained and have been issued first aid pack, can you please bring these along on Sunday (and each run you attend)
RIDE ETIQUETTE– We ride out of town in groups as normal and split into paced groups at the Aforementioned point. From there, each group MUST stay together and work as a group. We gradually build up to the suggested speeds of each paced group. If there is any split in the group (on Climbs etc) it is the responsibility of EVERYONE, not just the group leader, to get things back together at the top.
Ride Captains and Group leaders will decide on pace of group and arrange ride format.

Please make sure you look and familiarise yourself with this route before Sunday's ride.

*Please make sure you bring a face covering with you, which should be worn during any time off the bike (except for eating , drinking)
Each group will make their own way back to Glasgow Green
Forecast is to be warm and dry, temperatures around 18 degrees, and a SW wind of 10mph gusting to 22mph.
Pace Groups should contain no more than 8 riders.
All groups stay together and work together!!......this is a training ride not a race!!
Steady is steady and usually sit between 14 – 16 mph average.
Challenge should push your ability and sits about 16 - 18 mph average.
Cheeky Challenge is slightly faster and is around 18 - 20 mph.
Race Pace is very often 20+ mph
**Each group stays together and works as a group and does not drop anyone so nobody is left exposed and riding solo
**these are the averages you should expect over the course of the ride in the above groups and there will be sections ridden faster and some slower depending on road profile and conditions
**Please remember to communicate within your group. If you get split due to junctions, traffic, roundabouts then get back together. If you get split as someone is dropping off the pace then that rider steps down a group, (or steps up if going through to hard) **If you need to ask the group to slow up, we would suggest you step down as you may be in the wrong group
**Please remember tubes, pump, levers, multitool and also please ensure your bike is in good working order, oiled, lubed, maintained and clean**
COVID AWARE
Can we stress again the below –
If you don’t feel safe, don’t attend. Don’t put yourself in a situation you are not comfortable with. I understand that some may be more cautious than others
1. Participants are required to carry a face covering at all times.
2. If you are in any way ill or have any symptoms at all….DO NOT attend a club ride
3. If you have been in a public situation that you feel there was or may have been a risk with regards to Covid-19, please do not attend and wait until the next club ride
4. Be respectful (as you always are), be thoughtful and mindful of your actions during your time with your fellow members.
