GGCC Club Run Sunday 8th December 2024 - Glennifer Braes and Eaglesham Moor, South 49 miles
Please meet under the McLennan Arch on the green for 8:30am sharp start.
This week we plan to head out through Paisley, up and over the Brae and onto Eaglesham Moor and the windfarm.
We don't generally use this route very often, so please make sure you take a look at the link to give yourself an idea of the direction and terrain, or indeed load it into your Garmin/wahoo if you can.
We will head out through Govan, towards Braehead, but turning under the motorway and into the hillington industrial estate. Then through Arkleston, stopping to get into pace groups at the side of Barshaw Park entrance. Onto Hawkhead, at which point we turn right towards Paisley, and up over Glennifer brae. (About two-thirds of the way up the climb you will see a sharp turn to the left signposted "SEARGEANT LAW". Please turn up this road and carry on until you see a small car park on the left, where we will re-group before continuing). Then onto Lugton, stewarton, over the cutstraw / clunch and onto the A77 followed by moor road up to the windfarm.
Following the coffee stop, each group will set off together and travel over the Eaglesham Moor, up Bonnyton, and down into waterfoot. Then we head through Busby, Carmunnock road, down the bypass and back into town via polmadie.
Each group will make their own way back to Glasgow Green
WE WILL STOP AT WHITELEES WINDFARM FOR OUR COFFEE BREAK. PLEASE REMEMBER CASH/CARDS. They will be expecting us and will have a good cake selection!
We will go through some basic safety, first aid and basic bike maintenance before we set off so that everyone stays safe and knows exactly what’s happening on the ride.
The group leaders will be identified prior to setting off in order that each paced group runs as smoothly as possible.
For those of you who are first aid trained and have been issued first aid pack, can you please bring these along on Sunday (and each run you attend)
RIDE ETIQUETTE– We will ride out of town in groups as normal and split into paced groups at the corner of Arkleston road and Paisley Road (just at the Barshaw Park Entrance). From there, each group MUST stay together and work as a group. We will start and ride at the advertised speeds of each paced group. If there is any split in the group (on Climbs etc) it is the responsibility of EVERYONE, not just the group leader, to get things back together at the top.
PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU LOOK AT THE ROUTE PRIOR TO SUNDAYS RIDE.
Forecast is to be dry, with temperatures up around 4-6 degrees, and a NNW wind of 6 mph gusting to 23 mph.
Groups should contain between 10 - 12 riders.
All groups stay together and work together!!......this is a training ride not a race!!
Steady is steady and usually sit between 14 – 16 mph average.
Challenge should push your ability and sits about 16 - 18 mph average.
Cheeky Challenge is slightly faster and is around 18 - 20 mph.
If there is interest, there may be a race pace group. This will be 20mph+ for sustained periods.
**Each group stays together and works as a group and does not drop anyone so nobody is left exposed and riding solo
**these are the averages you should expect over the course of the ride in the above groups and there will be sections ridden faster and some slower depending on road profile and conditions
**Please remember to communicate within your group. If you get split due to junctions, traffic, roundabouts then get back together. If you get split as someone is dropping off the pace then that rider steps down a group, (or steps up if going through to hard) **If you need to ask the group to slow up, we would suggest you step down as you may be in the wrong group
Please remember tubes, pump, levers, multitool and also please ensure your bike is in good working order, oiled, lubed, maintained and clean
