Club Run Details 11th August incorporating the GGCC 2nd Year Anniversary

08 Aug 2013

Sunday 11th August Club Run Incorporating the GGCC Anniversary Sportive

This Sunday we will be heading to the Isle of Cumbrae.

Full Event programme can be found here.

Please meet at the McLennan Arch on the green for an 8:30am sharp start.

We will go through some basic safety, group riding etiquette and group riding technique, first aid and basic bike maintenance before we set off so that everyone stays safe and knows exactly what’s happening on the ride.

The cost of the ferry and lunch is £14. (£10 for lunch and £4 for the ferry)

Can everyone bring along the £14 and we will collect this at the start of the day. This will make for an easier day out as we will then buy the tickets in one go at the ferry terminal. Also the lunch will be taken care of without any other fees needing to be settled.

For those of you who will be having family and friends travel to the island on the day, can we ask that either they buy their own tickets on arrival using the discount code “Glasgow Green Cycle Club” or you can bring along their fares to the green (£4 for adults and £2 for kids) and we can then buy their tickets as well. Cars will be charged at a cost of £19. The alternative is to leave the car in Largs then use the shuttle bus on the island.

For the lunch, adults will pay £10 and the kids will eat free. This we feel is the best way to work it.

We suggest each rider brings a spare pair of trainers on the day as there will be a lot of time off the bike once we get to Millport. You can bring these along with you to the Green in the morning and then leave them in the support van who will take the to Millport.

The mileage to Largs is 32 miles and the return route is around 40 miles. There are two significant ascents on the way back to Glasgow.

If you would rather miss the return route, there are trains leaving from Largs station at 15:26, 16:26 and 17:26. The journey times are around 1hr and 20 mins and the fare is £7.50.

The return route is more challenging and we would advise that all riders take care on the ascents and descents. The roads are in a good state though due to the area being a moor there are some livestock close to the road and some sections can have some gravel on them so please take care and communicate with the riders around you.

We will create two strava sections for the day. The first will be a 2 mile section on the Island for those of you who want to stretch your legs.

The second section will be the first of two climbs on the route home. Further details to follow.

The group leaders will be identified prior to setting off in order that each paced group runs as smoothly as possible.

There will be no paced groups on the day. It is our view that this is a social ride and we should take the time to ride in mixed groups.

Each group will have one rider who will be familiar with the details of the route.

The plan is to stop after 15 miles at the Canny Man pub near Beith in order to break the ride to Largs into two sections.

We will also then stop after 27 miles on the return leg (near Kilmacolm) in order to make sure all the groups are ok.

For those of you who are first aid trained and have been issued first aid pack, can you please bring these along on Sunday (and each run you attend)

Weather is to be around 15 degrees, with some showers. 15mph westerly winds.

**Please remember tubes, pump, levers, multitool and also please ensure your bike is in good working order, oiled, lubed, maintained and clean**

See you all Sunday.
