GGCC Club Run - Wednesday 17th September
15 Sep 2014
GGCC Club Run - Wednesday 17th September – Strathaven Route with Sydes Brae climb to start.
LAST STRATHAVEN RIDE OF THE SEASON BEFORE WE SWITCH TO AN ALTERNATIVE RIDE TBC.
Due to the fading light we will make this the last of the Strathaven rides in this format as its getting pretty dark on unlit roads towards the approach to East Kilbride.
We will head through Cambuslang, along and up to Blantyre, up Sydes Brae and onto Strathaven via Muttonhall Road, then back towards East Kilbride, down the Kingsway and back into Hamilton, through Burnside and along to the McDonalds.
Route Details. http://connect.garmin.com/course/6336377
Please ensure you have adequate lights (front and rear) as it will be dark by the end of the ride.
Please also ensure that
the
groups stay together and work together so everyone benefits from
the
safety of a group and nobody gets left alone on
the
road in the dark for safety reasons.
Meet at 6.45pm for a 7pm start at the McDonalds at the end of London Road near the junction of the M74.
We will go through some basic safety tips and group riding etiquette before we set off so that everyone stays safe and knows exactly what happens on the ride.
If you have been given a first aid pack or have your own, can you bring this with you on club runs?
Andy and Ray wont be there on Wednesday as they are away with work so please can we have a dedicated group leader to take overall responsibility for the ride and have other group leaders offer help and support to ensure the ride goes as planned.
Weather is to be around 16 degrees, dry but cloudy with a 7mph ENE wind.
We will split into STEADY, CHALLENGE, CHEEKY CHALLENGE and RACE PACE at defined and agreed points along the route, and we will aim to minimize the stops.
Groups should contain between 8 and 10 riders.
Steady is steady and usually sit between 14 – 16 mph average.
Challenge should push your ability and sits about 18 mph average.
Cheeky Challenge is slightly faster and is around 20 mph.
Race Pace should be regularly over 20+mph
**these are the overall average speeds of the group
Please pick your group carefully and remember that all groups work together to promote group riding but apart from steady the 3 drops and you are out rule applies for fairness to the group
.
**Please remember tubes, pump, levers, multitool and also please ensure your bike is in good working order, oiled, lubed, maintained **
