GGCC UPDATE - club activity / 28th October 2020 / Covid 19 - update

GGCC members, as you can imagine and no doubt realise, all GGCC club activity continues to be suspended unfortunately.

We maintain our approach and stance that the safety of members, their extended family and close friends comes before anything and with the current restrictions in place that are set by the government riding in groups is just not a safe, sensible or acceptable thing to do.

No further guidance at all has been given by Scottish Cycling who maintain that you can ride in groups of 9 staying 2 metres apart before, during and after which I find absolutely astounding and totally inappropriate and un-workable. What they are suggesting is just dangerous and I have questioned it and challenged it but as you can imagine no response has been given.

Riding in that way means either you have a chain of riders 18 metres long as they must be 2 metres apart OR a chain of riders that are essentially in the middle of the road as they need to be 2 metres apart side my side – its mental and GGCC will not suggest or ride in such a fashion. I hope you agree.

We are always happy to look at suggestions and we will of course try our hardest to get back to a sense of normality as soon as possible but we need to do so within the framework of what is allowed and deemed acceptable by you the members, your family and the community as we don’t want to be a burden on anyone or any service.

As Ive stated before 2020 has been a bit of a write off but that’s not to say 2021 wont be huge and back to what we do exceptionally well (if we are allowed to be huge!) and plans are afoot to make up for this year so please bear with us and I hope you are part of what’s coming in 2021!

Updates will follow as and when we get them but stay safe GGCC’ers and hopefully see you all very soon.
